Assalamualaikum there :D I would like to know what are some examples of bid'aah? It's very confusing when between muslims, we argue about things that can & cannot be done.

Wa’alaikum Salam! :D

Bid’ah means innovation. In the light of the Deen, it refers to new practices which were not thought nor practiced previously by Rasulullah nor endorsed by the Quran directly.

There are 2 views with regards to Bid’ah:

  1. All bid’ah’s are wrong and prohibited

  2. There are Bid’ah Hasanah (which means good) and Saiyiah (which means bad). Bid’ah Hasanah is allowed, according to this view. Please, please, please refer to this page for the elaboration which is backed up by verses from the Quran and Hadiths. You can also find few examples of Bid’ah Hasanah at the lower half of the page provided. :)

Rasulullah s.a.w stated: “The person who introduced a good thing in Islam, shall obtain the reward for it and also the reward for those who adopt it. As for the one who introduces a bad thing (Bid’ah Sayyi ah) he will obtain the punishment for introducing it and also for those who adopt it, will also be punished.”

(Sahih Muslim in KitabuzZakaat Tirmidhee chapter Eleven)

It is indeed confusing, not to mention sad, when Muslims argue and start condemning each other prior to this matter. I sincerely hope the trend of calling other Muslims, “Fasiq” and “Kafir” would die soon and people would start respecting each other. :( Only Allah can tell the true degree of one’s Iman.

Wallahua’lam.
