Wa’alaikum Salam, Sis.
I apologize for taking some time to answer your question. Time wasn’t on my side this few days.:]
It’s true that you can’t perform prayers when you are having your period. However, you can still read the Quran. There are no daleels which prevents a menstruating women from reading the Qur’an.:]
Verse 59 from Surah Al-Waqi’ah states that “Which the (Quran) none can touch but the purified ones”. From this verse, many scholars derived that it is prohibited to handle the Mushaf (the book form of the whole Qur’an) without Wudhu’, when one is in a state of impurity following sexual intercourse or wet dream, or during female menstruation period. However, it is still permissible if you read it from other sources (i.e. memory, tafseer, the computer and so on). On the other extreme, there are even scholars who opine that it is permitted to handle the Quran without wudhu’ or when in a “state of impurity”.
Either way, you can still read the Qur’an, sis! :D
It seems to me that in times of uneasiness, you seek and hope for comfort from Him. I salute you for that. :D Hence, here are some religious alternatives that might help distract you from the hormonal mood swings:
- Read the translation of the Holy Qur’an.
- Read about the relationship of Science and Qur’an.
- History and stories of Prophets.
- Biography of Sahabah’s
- Mu’jizats and Karamah
- Qiyamah and its signs
- & also Zikrullah! :)
These are the topics which I find very inspiring and faith-strengthening. Hopefully they would help curb or minimise the uneasy feeling.
Even though, PMS is a natural process, one should not surrender to such emotional swings. May Allah bless you sisters who try best to take control of your emotions, instead letting them take over you.
If there are sisters who wish to share with regards to this matter, reblog with your inputs. I would definitely love to read them. :D [edited: I just realised you cant reblog questions, so if theres any suggestions, do submit it under the “Share” tab! :D]
Lastly, thank you for your kind words and walhamdulillah. :D
Wallahu’alam and Wassalam.
