Gelang tangan

Translation: Salam. I know that it is prohibited for males to put on bracelet. However, I normally put on a Tasbih bracelet. Is it still prohibited? Thank you.

Response:

Wa’alaikum Salam wr wb, bro. :D

From what I know, there are no hadiths nor verses from the Quran directly prohibiting men from putting on a bracelet.

However, it is said to be prohibited as It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed men who imitate women and women who imitate men. Same goes for earing and necklaces.

With regards to your question (Tasbih bracelet), the answer that I am going to give is merely an opinion, since I couldn’t find any reference for it. It is highly advisable for you to cross refer with knowledgeable religious teachers.

In this matter, I believe it depends on your intention. If you have them on your wrist because you want it to be accessible whenever you feel like doing zikr, I think there shouldn’t be a problem with that.  But if it is for the sake of fashion, then it would be better to avoid (because of the hadith). Like a wrist watch. It is permissible for us men put it around our wrist, because of its main use - to check the time. But if the main purpose changes (let’s say to beautify), I think, it is better to avoid wearing them fearing the prophet does not redha with our actions. Naudzubillah.

Indeed all actions are based on the intentions. When it comes to intention, you can lie others, and even yourselves about it, but you can never lie to Him. :D

Wallahua’lam. :)
