Salam to the beautiful people managing muslimsociety.tumblr (: I have a question: Are Muslim sisters allowed to polish their nails? I'm just curious because I have heard people claiming that we sisters can polish our nails when we are on our 'off' duty. How about henna? Are we allowed to wear them too, considering that we only can wear them on the days when we don't have to perform our prayers? :/

Salam to you too! :D

Muslim sisters, but not brothers, are allowed to put on henna any time of the month. Wudhu and prayers are, insyallah, valid with the henna on. Read about it here

With regards to nail polish, ideally, sisters are allowed to wear them as agreed by many scholars. But(!) she needs to remove them, before taking ablution/wudhu as the solution hinders water to penetrate through. Maybe that’s why, people say put it on during your “off days”? So that you dont have to go through the hassle of putting on and removing every few hours?? haha must be.

However, what I wish to highlight here is our sincere intention or niyyah. Why do you put them on? :)

Wallahua’lam. :D
